SHOEI helmets take their form from state-of-the-art technology combined with nearly 60 years of helmet building experience, using the most advanced materials available. With safety, comfort, and passion in mind, SHOEI product development always takes customer feedback, demands of the market, and new trends into consideration. Although safety and function- ality always play the dominant role, the design aspect is never neglected. This special combination of perfect functionality, unique design, and unsurpassed quality standards are testimony to the passion that SHOEI has for motorcycle riders worldwide.

PRODUCTION and QUALITY ASSURANCE

For all the energy and passion invested into the development of a product, the same level of care and due diligence must be achieved during the production process. A number of unique, state-of-the-art processes combine to yield the unrivaled quality that only SHOEI helmets are known for, and each helmet must pass several rigorous inspections throughout the production process before being awarded the famous SHOEI hexagon. The actual production of a single SHOEI helmet takes up to five days.

AIM+ (Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus); Proprietary technology integrates a multi-ply matrix specifically designed to meet both SNELL M2015 and DOT standards. Hand-laid interwoven layers of fiberglass with lightweight organic and high performance fibers. SHOEI’s strongest, lightest, most elstic shell provides optimal impact absorption.

FINAL ASSEMBLY of each helmet is done with care and precision, including the installation of ventilation sliders, shield seals, impact absorbing EPS liners, and comfort interiors. Each helmet passes a detailed final inspection before being passed on to the consumer. This strict compliance with the production processes and associated quality control standards guarantee the consis- tently high quality of a SHOEI helmet. completed by hand. Combining meticulous handwork and automation in production ensures optimal quality, and each SHOEI helmet still boasts a premium-painted finish with hand-applied decals before being sealed with additional layers of clearcoat. SHOEI applies up to five layers of paint to each helmet. SHOEI’S PAINTING AND GRAPHIC APPLICATION processes are second to none. Though some of our production steps have been automated today, it is absolutely critical that many processes are still ROBOTIC LASER CUTTING gives each helmet its final shape. All protrusions created in manufactur- ing are cut off, and the openings for the shield and ventilation systems are cut into the helmet shell with robotically-controlled lasers. Once this process is complete, all helmets are thoroughly inspected to ensure that they have the correct material thickness and weight.

AERODYNAMICS

VENTILATION

Motorcyclists live in a stream of moving air, which is precisely why every SHOEI model undergoes extensive aero- dynamic testing in SHOEI’s very own wind tunnel. In addition to the shell, the aerodynamic efficiency of spoilers and vents are also analyzed in SHOEI’s wind tunnel for optimal per- formance. As a result, every SHOEI helmet boasts an aero- dynamic design that increases air flow and reduces noise, buffeting, and lift, ultimately increasing performance and overall rider comfort.

An integral part of the development process, SHOEI’s ventilation systems direct cooling, moisture-drying air into the helmet, and utilize areas of negative air pressure to the rear of the helmet to draw warm, damp air through the outlets and into the outside environment. Perfect shape and placement of vent inlets and outlets, along with air channels buried within SHOEI’s Dual-Layer EPS Liners, are the basis for optimum ventilation, and are a significant part of what separates SHOEI from the competition.

SHOEI’s QR-E Base Plate System is one of the most advanced shield attachment mechanisms in the world. The simple shield release makes it easy to change your shield as conditions dictate. Also, widely appreciated is the convenience of SHOEI’s shield fine tuning adjustment dial. Each time the shield is lowered, the spring-loaded base plates pull the shield back to contact the window beading evenly, ensuring a wind and waterproof seal. QR-E BASE PLATE SYSTEM

The CWR-F shield, featured on SHOEI’s X-Fourteen helmet, sets a new standard in shield aerodynamics; like the Qwest helmet’s CW-1 shield, it is both taller and wider than the CX-1V it replaces. Both shields protect riders from 99% of the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays, and the CW-1’s three dimensional injection-molding process ensures distortion-free vision. All four shields work in conjunction with SHOEI’s optional Pinlock ® system to deliver fog-free vision in even the most challenging conditions. The RF-1200’s and RF-SR’s CWR-1 shield offers all these features, plus innovative ribs on the top and bottom edges of the shield that improve rigidity and eliminate bending occuring from wind pressure, as well as opening and closing. The Pinlock ® -ready CWR-F and CWF-1 shields provide a flat surface to accommodate tear-off sheets, while still ensuring a tight seal between the shield and the helmet’s window beading. Tear-off posts on the flat shields allow for tear-off tension to be adjusted without tools, making it easier and quicker to adjust racing tear-offs. The CNS-2, for the Hornet X2, and CNS-3, included with the NEOTEC II and GT-Air II, comes equipped with the Pinlock ® EVO fog-resistant system, protects from 99% of the sun’s damaging UV rays, and provides improved air/water sealing and noise reduction. The flagship model of SHOEI’s premium helmet lineup, the X-Series, has earned the respect and praise of many of the world’s top road racers over the years, and the X-Fourteen is the next generation of this high-performance pedigree. Developed using rider input from the world’s top road racing athletes like Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith, careful consideration was given to every detail of the X-Fourteen. Technology continues to progress every aspect of a racer’s equipment, and the X-Fourteen’s next-level features set the new standard for performance, adjustability, and safety that today’s world-class athletes can trust all the way to the podium. Ask any engineer in the racing paddock, and they’ll tell you that one of the most important considerations in motorcycle design - the difference between winning and losing - is aerodynamics. The state-of-the-art wind tunnel facility at SHOEI’s Ibariki factory is an integral part of the helmet development process, and it was here that the aerodynamic performance of the X-Fourteen was born. Placing an emphasis on aerodynamic optimi- zation in racing’s numerous riding positions, SHOEI engineers achieved the most aerodynamic and stable X-Series helmet yet. The X-Fourteen showcases an advanced shell shape, along with a completely redesigned Rear Stabilizer. The Patent-Pending Rear Stabilizer system features a standard set of Rear Flaps that can be replaced with an optional, narrower set of flaps to help fine-tune resistance and aerody- namic performance depending on rider preference and track demands. In addition, strategically placed ridges along the top of the shell and chin bar allow wind to stream off the helmet with minimal resistance, ultimately reducing drag and improving stability. Add to the mix a removable Lower Air Spoiler that can be affixed to the chin bar to further improve aerody- namic stabilization, and you’re left with the new standard for high-speed performance. Next-level ventilation performance was a top priority when SHOEI engineers conceptualized the X-Fourteen. Boasting six air intakes and six exhaust outlets - all strategically shaped and located to maximize airflow and negative air pressure suction to the rear of the helmet - the X-Fourteen’s ventilating prowess is second to none. The X-Fourteen’s high performance cheek pad cooling system delivers refreshing air to the rider’s cheek area, thanks to channels cut through the EPS liner and corresponding air holes located in the cheek pad foam. Combined with the newly positioned side air outlets (moved rearward to optimized hot air expulsion), the X-Fourteen’s ventilation system cools and clears warm, humid air from the rider’s face with great efficiency. Further enhancing the X-Fourteen’s advanced racing characteristics, the entire ventilation system has been optimized in SHOEI’s wind tunnel to excel when in the tucked racing position, even behind windscreens.

The X-Fourteen’s CWR-F race shield provides a vast field of vision that today’s top racers demand. Innovative ribs on the top and bottom edge of the shield improve rigidity and eliminate the bending effect that may occur from wind pressure during high-speed riding, and the all-new double shield locking mech- anism prevents potential unwanted shield openings in the event of an accident. The CWR-F race shield also features SHOEI’s exclusive patent-pending Vortex Generators, which effectively reduce air friction and improve airflow around the helmet’s surface. The X-Fourteen is equipped with a fully removable, washable, replaceable, and adjustable 3D Max-Dry Custom Interior System. SHOEI’s exclusive Max-Dry liner material absorbs and dissipates sweat and moisture twice as fast as traditional nylon interiors, and in combination with the X-Fourteen’s superior ventilation system, keeps racers and aggressive riders alike cool and dry during intense riding sessions. The 3D center pad components are three-dimensionally shaped to match the contours of a rider’s head, allowing for an extremely comfortable fit while maintaining the firm hold necessary for distraction-free, high- speed racing. Additionally, the X-Fourteen’s 3D Max-Dry Custom Interior System allows riders the opportunity to replace each section of the center pad with optional thicknesses for a completely customizable fit. The star of the X-Fourteen’s 3D Max-Dry Custom Interior System is the all-new, patent pending rotating liner components, which allow riders to adjust the position/angle of the helmet by up to four degrees (see image above) to increase the upper field of vision while tucked in extreme racing positions. GT-AIR II DESIGN CONCEPT

Released in 2013, as SHOEI’s premium touring full-face helmet with an internal sun shield, the original SHOEI GT-Air established this type of helmet as a functional and stylish alternative appreciated by many riders, owing to its convenience and aggressive, refined design. SHOEI has now released the all-new GT-Air II, a helmet that evolves the GT-Air’s functionality, performance, and design primarily for touring use to a new, higher level of experience. The SHOEI GT-Air II integrates the optional SENA SRL 2 Bluetooth communication system seamlessly into the concept of this helmet. The

GT-Air II is also equipped with a CNS-1 face shield and baseplate system; allowing the face shield to open slightly more in its “cracked open” position to reduce fogging of the shield at low speed. The GT-Air II also uses an all-new extended QSV-2 inner sun shield for improved coverage of the rider’s face in bright sunny conditions. Inheriting the functionality, performance, and design of the GT-Air, the GT-Air II further enhances the performance of the internal sun shield, full-face helmet.

AIM SHELL CONSTRUCTION Utilizing a multilayered structure of strong glass fiber and organic fibers, SHOEI’s AIM (Advanced Integrated Matrix) shell construction ensures a high-performance shell structure designed exclusively by SHOEI. AIM shell construction makes for a helmet that is light weight, yet rigid in elasticity. The GT-Air II offers proprietary technology that integrates a multi-ply matrix specifically designed to meet DOT stan- dards. • Improved Performance

The GT-Air uses the proven SHOEI CNS-1 face shield. The base plates for this face shield have been redesigned for improved opening per- formance in the “cracked open” position. Based on SHOEI’s landmark QR-N base plate, this updated design adds a new opening position for keeping the shield slightly more open in this first open (or “cracked open”) position, thus giving a rider more ventilation options. The gear teeth of the base plate have been redesigned to make the face shield’s first open position have a taller opening, improving ventilation to a rider’s face in foggier, moist conditions. The GT-Air II’s redesigned base plate also moves the face shield’s attachment point back on the shell, positioning the shield closer to the rear of the helmet. This new location adds a gap between the rear edge of the baseplate and the indentation on the attachment. This design change improves the shield’s adjustment range, and makes opening and closing the face shield easier for the rider.

The GT-Air II includes a built-in sun shield, the QSV-2. The sun shield tucks neatly away beneath a non-intrusive shell built into the helmet’s liner and can be lowered with the easy control of a sliding switch.

The GT-Air II’s interior uses a hybrid fabric construction offering both a moisture-absorbent, quick-drying material and soft-raised fabric. The moisture-absorbent, quick-drying material is located in area that contact a rider’s cheeks and brow where sweat tends to stick while riding. Soft, raised fabric is located where a rider’s skin tends to rub when wearing or removing the helmet. This design update offers improved rider comfort. Red stitching is used on the leather areas on the bottom of the GT-Air II cheek pads. Red stitching is also used on the leather and mesh fabric areas on both sides of the eye port, accentuating the design. Based on the exclusive SHOEI RIDER LINK (SRL) system designed for the SHOEI NEOTEC II by SENA, the new SRL2 Bluetooth communication system has been developed specifically to integrate with the GT-Air II. For the GT-Air II, a wired microphone is utilized for the communication system, which connects to the SRL2’s connection socket. Similar to the original SRL system, the GT Air II’s system is equipped with an attachment base that integrates easily with the helmet’s shell design

EMERGENCY QUICK RELEASE SYSTEM (EQRS) and the GT Air II integrated wire routing channels throughout the helmet. This design makes the SRL2 easy to install and to charge the unit.The SRL 2 offers long battery life and talk time, Bluetooth 4.1 technology, advanced noise control, and a built-in FM radio with 10 presets and automatic scanning for convenient connectivity while riding. The SHOEI RF-1200 ® has achieved a new level in the reduction of wind noise. Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior liners, and an improved shield system, the rider will enjoy a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The 3D-shaped interior of the RF-1200 ® has achieved a balance of a

comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The removable cheek pads utilize soft polyurethane foam, covering six layers of hard polyurethane to reduce shaking. The bottom of the cheek pads feature a high volume design, filling in the distinct and aggressive accent line of the shell of the helmet, comfortably forming to the riders neck and blocking wind from entering the helmet. The multi-layer cheek pads also improve the range of motion in the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him or her.

The RF-1200 ® features a shield system that continues to offer the rider the best in optical performance. The CWR-1 Pinlock ® shield features ribs on the top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading on the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, SHOEI has developed an updated base plate for the RF-1200 ® . The QR-E base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet’s window beading, sealing it tightly with strengthened springs to guard against wind and rain. The addition of a new five- stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base plate for easy shield sealing adjustments.
